The Brief

“The Ecotopia of Yatsu Higata” is sets in Yatsu Tidal Flat, Chiba Prefecture of Japan. A bathhouse paradice,  connecting the soul and mind to the nature with technologies. Inspired by the term “Ecotopia” from a novel written by Ernest Callenbach during the 1970s’ counterculture and green movement influence. This project converts Yatsu
Tidal Flat into a Japanese Ecotopia, seeking the balance between human, nature and technology through  elebration of mud and water which is the nature source on site. Through the concept of Gaia and the concept of soul and body, by regulating the nature and seeking the balance of nature with architecture. This project, Ecotopia mechas are designed to provide interaction between the human and nature, providing services to the nature and the humans – cleansing the mudflat, and relaxation for the humans. These mechas will be acting like an individual ‘organisms’ crawling across the mudflat while regulating the nature and humanity, being the tidal flat as their habitat.
