The Architectures of Japanese Techno-Environmental Imaginaries

Fabricating Ecotopia is thesis in a manga (English: comic) form which was developed in Japan since 19th century. This thesis explored on the architecture of Japanese Techno-environmental imaginaries through the synthesis of Western and Japanese Science Fictions and historical events. The objective of this thesis was to explore and reimagine the possibilities of architecture or urban future considering climate change through the lens of ecotopic science fiction particularly the Japanese culture correlational comparative with the Western culture. This thesis is extracted through theories from the science fictions – in reference with history of science fictions, and contemporary environmental theories from both Japan and West, and how the ideas were generated and influenced by the social and customs of that period that lead to the contemporary theories that both regions have.
